I've had a good couple of days.
On Thursday I had a job interview that I thought went reasonably well. I won't be hearing back for a few weeks, but if I get this it'll make my life more convenient. Less free time but more income sounds pretty good right now.
Then I went out with friends and discovered a fantastic Indian restaurant called Spice of India in Chesapeake. Not cheap but oh god was it worth every penny. They have a desert which we described as "the platonic form of a donut" "like eating an orgasm" and "religious." All the food was fantastic. It wasn't it all crowded, which was good for us in the short term -- great service -- but worries us a bit in the long term because we want this place to stay in business. We're all recommending it to everyone we know in the area now.
On Friday I found out that the Violent Femmes were playing a free concert on the beach. Well, how can anyone say "no" to free live Violent Femmes? The show was every bit as great as you'd expect -- now I can't believe I don't have any of their albums. I'm going to need to correct this stat. It was interesting- mostly of course they played the sort of things you're used to from the Femmes: "When I'm walkin', I strut my stuff..." etc. etc. -- but they also did a 3 or 4 song bluegrass set and played a bit of religious music. I hadn't expected that at all. Then it was back to "why can't I get just one FUCK" like it was supposed to be. They also did a cover of "Surfin' Bird," probably because this concert was part of an East Coast Surfing Championship/competition (whatever ECSC is an acronym of).
It was fun watching the audience too. Being on a beach there were a lot of people in swimsuits, and being part of an athletic competition a pretty good percentage of them actually belonged in swimsuits. Then there were the toddlers perched on people's shoulders. "It's my vewy first Viowent Femmes concert!" Very cute.
And to top it off the incipient food poisoning I felt after the concert turned out to be a false alarm. I feel just fine now.
So all in all, right now anyway, life is good.
Update: It keeps on getting better.
I just saw this geekgasm-inducing Doctor Who news and have moved from cheeful to bubbly like fine champaigne. Or cheap champaigne. Or Mountain Dew. Just something carbonated.
